Today I am starting a blog to discuss how VR can help erase distances and how we may tackle cultural and language barriers when travel is instant. I have spent three decades in Japan, a country that has both benefited and suffered from cultural isolation. Now that VR can open the "island nation", as the Japanese like to call it, how can people, businesses and regions overcome the fact that very few people speak English (much less any other foreign language), or are ready to communicate with people raised in vastly different cultures? What are the problems and opportunities (on both sides of the border), and how can technology help? In what way must we change our attitudes to succeed in a world where distance has ceased to exist?

This blog will hopefully be helpful to
  • People looking to gain a communicative advantage in a distanceless world
  • People who want to empower themselves through instant travel
  • People in search of a richer perspective of the world and themselves
I hope that you are one of those people, and willing to start a dialogue with me in this space.

This is an absolutely fabulous idea! As an American serviceman, my ship pulled into Sasebo on a number occasions. We enjoyed the city and taking the bullet train to Tokyo, but never got a chance to visit the amazing geographical features and interesting rural areas. I can see how a virtual tour could be priceless.

I am delighted you find interest in our ambition to get rid of distances and make Japan accessible to every living room! And yes, why not include the rural areas? There is a growing trend among travelers to Japan to go discover what's off the beaten path. I was even shocked myself when I saw tourists being ordered to line up to take a picture of the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto from the best spot. There is even a man in charge of the photo cue. Better find true beauty where you are not being trampled by people :-)
