Why is this useful to me?

If you like travel and adventure, and exotic cultures, it is. Even if you just plan an arm-chair trip.

For hundreds of years, Japan was an insular nation. Entry by foreigners was strictly forbidden by law. This cultural baggage remains today. Mimir is a unique company in the sense that we bridge the three divides that stands between you and a great travel experience in Japan - real or virtual - using the most efficient travel tool available - Virtual Reality. In VR, distance is irrelevant. All of a sudden it opens Japan to you. And, even if you have no headset, you can still get a good feel of the real thing on your smartphone screen.

We help you avoid a number of headaches many Japan travelers face:
  1. Few people in Japan speak English (or any other foreign language)
  2. There are many great places off the beaten path that remains undiscovered, and few to guide you there.
  3. No ordinary travel brochures, blogs or reviews can give you a feeling of what Japan is actually like before you go.

Barrier 1 - Language

There is just not enough information about places to go in Japan available in English, and even less that puts local people and places into context, so you know what you are actually experiencing. This is especially true of the countryside of Japan.
Picture

Barrier 2 - Culture

Centuries of isolation contributed to the development of attitudes and norms peculiar to Japan. A human guide can help you understand these beforehand if you plan to visit the country. Bots can not help here :-)

Barrier 3 - Spotty WiFi coverage

Contrary to popular belief, Japan lags behind in the field of IT. WiFi coverage is spotty. With a trip in VR before you go you can gain access to great insights about the people and culture of Japan that is out of touch in the real world.
